    Best Time to Visit

Pretty much anytime – it only depends on which of the four seasons you prefer. Its continental climate means summers are hot and sunny, and winters are cold and snowy. Pick the season, and your choice of bankside beaches on the Rhine, or thermal baths.

    What to Pack

The Swiss city of culture is as stylish as they come, so fine clothes are de rigor no matter which season. With around two dozen museums in the city and fairs and events all year, best to bring your sense of curiosity too.

    General Tips

It may only be Switzerland’s third city, behind Zurich and Geneva, but when it comes to the arts, Basel is a leader of the world, historically and in the modern age. During the Renaissance and the Age of Enlightenment, the city flourished, and heritage sites abound – the entire old town is a nationally protected.

Modern Basel too boasts buildings from almost every significant contemporary architect, from Zaha Hadid to Frank Gehry, Tadao Ando to Herzong & de Meuron.

Museums too range across a vast spectrum, from the Dollhouse Museum to Basel Paper Mill. The Kunstmuseum Basel holds the largest art collection in the country. And then there’s performing arts – Theater Basel stages German-language productions, and the city has the country’s largest orchestra too, the Sinfonieorchester Basel that calls the Musiksaal of the Stadtcasino its principal home.
