Zurich Clockmaker Miki Eleta Presents Hippocampus
MB&F M.A.D. Gallery in Geneva is currently presenting Zurich clockmaker Miki Eleta’s creations, including his latest timepiece, Hippocampus
The 2.8-metre-tall clock features a musical movement with a melody which will not repeat itself over a hundred years.
Completely self-taught, Eleta has created more than 28 kinetic clocks, along with his own escapement called the Eleta-Hemmung that regulates many of his complicated clocks.
On display are six of his unique pieces, including Die Sieben, a kinetic sculpture that includes tiny steel balls that travel through passageways, creating an interplay that is both visual and acoustic. The 1.4-metre-tall sculpture chimes 16 different tones using 16 passageways around the clock’s circumference along which the steel balls move, touching 16 pentatonic cylinders and 47 gears. These gears return the balls through the passageways to the sound of a tune that only repeats itself every seven years.
The exhibition runs at the MB&F M.A.D. Gallery in Geneva until January 25.
