SINGAPORE — A total of 33 art projects created by young, cutting edge artists and galleries emerging on the Asian art scene will be showcased as part of Art Stage Singapore’s curated platform Project Stage.

Art Stage director Rudolf Lorenzo told ARTINFO the fair approached several young Asia Pacific galleries and called for project submissions.

“Sometimes, we see also interesting works in exhibitions or artist studios which suit this category, and we invite the respective galleries to submit a proposal,” he explained, “If the artist doesn't have a gallery which can bring the work to the fair, we facilitate that as well. A good example was Liu Zhuoquan's World of Thousands at Project Stage 2011, I saw this beautiful work in Beijing and thought it would be great to have it shown in the fair. At that time the artist didn't have a contact here in Singapore, therefore, I looked for a local gallery for him; Purple Roof Gallery helped the artist realize his participation in the end.”

The selection is made by Art Stage together with a group of country experts based on the content and originality of the projects. Project Stage exhibitors receive a subsidized rate from Art Stage, he added.
