Los Carpinteros Bar and Event Space Installation Is Unveiled in Miami
MIAMI BEACH — It was a beautiful moonlit evening on Miami Beach as the Miami Symphony Orchestra played a piece of music to inaugurate the temporary public sculpture known as “Güiro,” a bar and event space installation designed by the Cuban-born, Madrid-based Marco Castillo and Dagoberto Rodriguez, the artist collective known as Los Carpinteros. The Absolut Art Bureau sponsored the construction of the sculpture and the event, to announce their reengagement with the contemporary art world after several years on hiatus. There were also three specially commissioned new cocktails for the occasion: the best of which combined ginger and coconut water. Whitechapel Gallery director Iwona Blazwick, gallerist Sean Kelly, and collectors Patricia Cisneros and Rosa de la Cruz were among the audience members who listened to the music as it drifted softly into the night air.
