MIAMI BEACH — It was a double-packed punch from across the pond last night as White Cube gallery founder Jay Jopling and Soho House founder Nick Jones invited the art world’s A-list to Soho Beach House Miami for an Art Basel Miami Beach kick-off bash. Partygoers who included artists Tracey Emin and Richard Phillips, collector Alberto Mugrabi, comedian Chelsea Handler, and music mogul Russell Simmons sipped Veuve Clicquot while noshing on a decadent spread of snow crab, ceviche, lamb, and shrimp cocktail. Chicago band Wild Belle treated the crowd to a live set poolside and out on the beach, guests danced under the moonlight in the tent. On our way out we caught hotelier André Balazs making an exit, while collector Jean Pigozzi said hello to curator Andy Valmorbida, who was making a fashionably late entrance. It’s only just the beginning, but this week’s Miami party scene is off to a good start indeed.
