Art Basel Miami Beach isn’t just about the art. Every year, a number of fashion names descend on Miami to join in the festivities. And with a plethora of well-dressed celebrities, socialites, gallerists, and models in town, it makes perfect sense.

A Night of Fashion

On December 5, the Art Basel Miami Beach fashion games begin when Interview magazine and Laure Heriard Dubreuil, co-founder of the hip luxe Miami boutique the Webster, host a special viewing of Valentino’s Pop Pois collection on the store’s roof. Later that night, a film made by photographer Bruce Weber for Dior Homme will be premiered at the Moore Building in the Design District at a party with W magazine. And finally, Chanel will sponsor Art.sy’s annual Beachside Barbecue at the Soho Beach House.

Exhibitions

Fashion exhibitions also abound. Condé Nast will give guests a preview of the forthcoming “Coming Into Fashion: A Century of Photography at Condé Nast” at Art Basel Miami Beach’s collectors’ lounge, displaying photographs by the likes of Edward Steichen, Herb Ritts, and Ellen Von Unwerth. Antonella Villanova Gallery will present a solo show of jeweler Delfina Delettrez’s Surrealist creations at Design Miami/. Christian Louboutin is holding an exhibition of works by Chinese sticker collage artist Ye Hongxing at its Design District boutique. On Saturday night, Chloé will present “Chloé Attitudes Inspired,” a one-night-only show of sculpture, painting, and photography based on the French fashion house.

Shop Till You Drop

Fashion e-commerce websites will be well represented in Miami. Net-a-Porter and Mr Porter are hosting Jonathan Horowitz’s “Free Store” with Visionaire. In addition, Harper’s BAZAAR’s ShopBAZAAR is popping up for a series of events in the Design District’s Buena Vista Building. Grey Area will also have a display of art accessories by Elyse Graham, Miya Ando, Nektar De Stagni, Scott Campbell, and Shelter Serra for sale at the Standard Spa.

Art Meets Fashion Commerce

As for product pushing, evian will fete its Diane Von Furstenberg bottle with a luncheon at the Soho Beach House on December 6 (Von Furstenberg is also having a Design Talk with W editor Stefano Tonchi at Design Miami/ on December 5), while Hérmes will hold a cocktail reception for its Hiroshi Sugimoto “Coleurs de L’Ombre” collaboration. That same night, Lacoste will hold a soirée for its collaboration with Brazilian designers Humberto and Fernando Campana.

In addition Prada is opening a store, Moncler will celebrate 60 years, and Donna Karan is holding a book signing on December 7 at the Delano Beach Club.
