4 Artists to Watch at the Sunday Art Fair
LONDON—While the heavy-hitters were at Frieze London, the satellite fair Sunday has become an important stop during Frieze Week for people truly looking for fresh faces. Always alert to spot new talent, ARTINFO has picked out a few of our favorites discoveries this year (To see our picks from the Sunday art fair, click on the slideshow):
1) At Kendall Koppe gallery, the Glaswegian artist Niall Macdonald presented cast plaster sculptures of objects from the artist's quotidian routines, presented like capitalist memento mori.
2) Milan's Fluxia stood out with work by Timur Si-Qin. The Berlin-based artist presented a sculptural work consisting of bottles of shower gel impaled on a medieval sword (the same work was also a highlight of the recent Berlin Art Week), as well as a video of two women shooting holes in a suit of armor with assault rifles.
3) Gregor Staiger gallery of Zurich had a winner with American Rachal Bradley, whose work consisted of two large C-print scans of Bridget Riley stripe paintings, suspended on wires, with wristwatches attached. Confounding and intriguing.
4) Finally, the UK’s Limoncello was touting Cornelia Baltes, an artist born in Denmark and recently graduated from the Slade School in London. Two humorous paintings with a twist — a wall drawing paired with a framed photo — left a lasting impression.
