Moving Image Fair’s Award Funds Donation to Tate Modern
Moving Image, the Contemporary Video Art Fair, has announced a new award that will grant $10,000 USD to Tate Modern to acquire a new work from this year’s exhibition.
Stuart Comer, Tate's Film Curator, will select new video and new media work for their permanent collection.
“The Moving Image Fair surveys an impressive, international selection of recent film and video work thoughtfully installed and shown at its best,” said Comer.
Moving Image has partnered up with online art platform, Gallerist, for the Award, which serves to raise the profile of video and new media art in major institutions. It was inspired by and honors a San Francisco couple, Pamela and Richard Kramlich, who were early supporters of film and video, and who continue to support the medium today through their private collection and the non-profit organization New Art Trust which they founded in 1997. The Trust promotes collection, preservation, exhibition, and understanding of technology-based art forms. In 2007, the New Art Trust gifted seminal works of video and new media works to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and is shared by MoMA in New York and the Tate in London.
“Tate is grateful to Gallerist for this award, which helps to extend our commitment to representing innovation in film and video in the Collection. We are delighted that the award highlights the pioneering achievements of Pamela and Richard Kramlich, whose longstanding commitment to Tate and the New Art Trust has contributed Art Trust has contributed substantially to our support of artists working with the moving image,” said Comer.
The Moving Image fair is in its second year and will be returning to London to exhibit during Frieze Art Fair. The fair will showcase a number of video and large video installations from numerous international commercial galleries and non-profit organizations.
The recipient of the Moving Image Award will be announced on October 11th.
