Alber Elbaz’s Good Sense: LBDs and Vibrant Satin Frocks for Lanvin's Spring Line

PARIS – Alber Elbaz isn’t the indulgent type. And so his spring collection for Lanvin, following the 10-year anniversary blow-out he staged for fall – in which he even took the stage and belted out “Que Sera Sera” – felt more like a fresh start than a dizzy hangover. A sobering black collection it was, with endless varieties of the LBD. Not just dresses, but pantsuits, jumpsuits, swimsuits, and tuxedo jackets. And while not the indulgent type, Elbaz isn’t a prohibitionist either, sending out several gem-encrusted numbers, including a jumpsuit on ’90s supe Kristen McMenamy entirely covered in hefty, industrial-looking jewelry. He also had the good sense to end the show with shimmering, effervescent satin pieces in succulent fruit shades.
