Coolbrands published their annual survey of Britain’s most influential brands and British retailers, Liberty ranked 10th and Selfridges came in at 14th respectively in the survey’s top 20 brands.

The survey a collective opinion of Britain’s coolest brands, people, and places and is in its eleventh year. Over 1,2000 brands were shortlisted from 10,000 companies, then divided up into two voting groups: the Expert Panel of 39 top creatives in the country including Alex Box, celebrated make-up artist and Creative Director of cosmetics brand Illamasqua, Luke Peters, editor of T3 magazine, and Susanna Lau, writer and blogger, and over 3000 members of the British public. Companies were judged based on style, innovation, originality, authenticity, desirability, and uniqueness.

Apple was ranked number one and Youtube a close second, jumping eight places from last year’s 10th spot. Both companies usurped Aston Martin, who was the top dog for six years and has dropped to third.

Liberty and Selfridges make their debut on the list. Selfridges’ tweeted, “We’re proud that Selfridges has been named one of the coolest brands in Britain”. Both retailers have a strong online presence and continue to innovate in the realm of retail. Both stores have retained a sense of their history while pushing the boundaries and supporting new ideas. Selfridges recently opened up a men’s designer section, with a new shoe section to open in November, and Liberty’s has one of the most comprehensive beauty departments full of niche and commercial brands. They also have a well-edited fashion selection for men and women, and continue to promote their history in crafts and textiles with collaborations with the likes of Nike and Barbour. Their unique prints have also been translated into shirts, dresses, stationary, and bath and body products.

Category winners include Alexander McQueen for best fashion brand, Christian Louboutain for best footwear, and Agent Provocateur for best lingerie.
