“Fashion Star” winner Kara Laricks took a risk by featuring black and red-orange in her debut New York Fashion Week collection – it made us think of Halloween. Otherwise, she incorporated her signature twist-on-menswear take with pocket squares, cummerbund accents, and her choice accessory, the collar-tie. The collection was a good first effort, but we have yet to see if she has what it takes to go beyond her reality TV glory.

Who It’s For: Reformed tomboys with a feminine edge
Color Palette: Black, goldenrod, ivory, navy, red-orange
Silhouettes: Slim, trapeze
Materials: Silk, cotton, jacquard, gabardine, cotton sateen, organza
Inspirations:  Late 1920s/early 1930s Japanese matchbox covers
Front Row Notables: Fern Mallis
