NEW YORK — A slew of events were happening around town last night for the unofficial New York Fashion Week kick-off (the real thing starts today). Brian Atwood celebrated his new store and fall campaign at the Four Seasons, DuJour magazine and the Cut feted their launches, and nightlife impresario Nur Khan held one of his infamous parties at the Electric Room.

Sadly, ARTINFO couldn’t be everywhere at once, so we opted for the opening of the Boom Boom Room at the Top of The Standard. Standard hotelier André Balazs wanted only the best for his glamorous guests – waitresses greeted them with glasses of champagne, while waiters walked about serving oysters.

Outside on the terrace curator Stacy Engman held court with Courtney Love, who showed us her antique 19th-century bejeweled headband. Then, we bumped into the ubiquitous rapper Theophilus London, and asked about his fashion week plans.

“Tomorrow I’m playing Haute Hippie’s Fashion’s Night Out, Monday night at the Darby, Wednesday night at the Darby,” said London. “I think I’m supposed to see Richard Chai tomorrow morning. I have Helmut Lang. Rebecca Minkoff is a good friend. I’m just trying to keep it light. Tommy Hilfiger, Diesel.”

Back downstairs, Spank Rock, who was on DJ duty, jumped on stage to join electropop duo MNDR for their song “Bang, Bang, Bang.”

“It’s always amazing to perform at the Boom Boom Room, but the opening night of fashion week is always like a huge party,” MNDR’s Amanda Warner told ARTINFO. “It’s one of the best nights of New York.”

As we walked out we spotted Calvin Klein and Donna Karan weaving through the crowd to get to a table, which left us wondering: How does she do it when she has two shows to prepare for?
