Up until now, there hasn’t been too much information available about Kathryn Bigelow’s new film “Zero Dark Thirty.” All that we knew was that the film had already stirred up controversy due to the Obama administration’s willingness to cooperate with the filmmakers, which in an election year, led some Republican politicians and pundits to tag the film as Obama propaganda. Well, we still don’t know if that’s the case, because the clip doesn’t really give us much of an idea of what we’re in for (really, there’s more text than footage in the teaser), except that viewer’s will apparently get to “Witness the greatest manhunt in history.” Based primarily on an event that happened just 15 months ago (as anyone who watched last night’s episode of “The Newsroom,” “5/1,” could tell you), it’s a definitely a quick turnaround for a “based on a true story” film. That said, with “The Hurt Locker,” Bigelow proved herself very adept at approaching topical films with a sober mind and keeping the story at the center of it all. Also, based on the cast (Jessica Chastain and Kyle Chandler, a.k.a. Coach Taylor, especially), it wouldn’t surprise us if this is one of award season’s must-see films.
