“Marilyn in Fashion: The Enduring Influence of Marilyn Monroe”/Courtsey of Running Press

Whether wearing a ladylike skirt suit, a sexy beaded cocktail dress, or an elegant evening gown, Marilyn Monroe knew how to carry an ensemble with confidence. Even 50 years after her death on August 5, 1962, her look continues to influence magazine editorials, red carpet appearances, and fashion designers. But who were the creators behind her iconic wardrobe? The new book “Marilyn in Fashion: The Enduring Influence of Marilyn Monroe” traces the actress’s sartorial impact, including the designers who played a major role in her life. From Ceil Chapman (who made the eggplant beaded number Marilyn donned while entertaining the troops in Korea in 1954) to Charles Lemaire (who created the black tulle evening gown she wore to the Oscars in 1951), ARTINFO takes a look at seven fashion designers who dressed the legendary movie star.
