Writer Rachel Wolff visited painter Kerry James Marshall's Chicago studio for her extensive Art+Auction profile of the artist, and returned with this original video feature as well. Wolff talks to Marshall, seen nestled between the large canvses stacked in his studio, about his recent work, the heritage and the future of the "Black Aesthetic" of the 1970s, and the possibilities of painting. Going to museums, Marshall explains, "I'm less likely to see pictures with black figures in them… so I make pictures that have black figures in them."
