Last January, German designer Philipp Plein enlisted an unlikely person for his new ad campaign: Lindsay Lohan, who at the time was still on supervised probation. Though hardly the most risque photoshoot the actress had done, it was still a relative scandal in the world of fashion, where most brands wouldn’t go after someone like Lohan.
For his next trick, Plein tapped Ed Westwick, who plays suave billionaire Chuck Bass on “Gossip Girl,” to walk in his spring/summer 2013 men’s wear runway show, which took place over the weekend in Milan. We're not sure what to make of the looks — there’s a tan leather jacket with a skull above the left breast, a tiny white T-shirt with some very colorful prints, and a strange little moustache atop Westwick’s upper lip. Not quite as sleek as Chuck’s collection of bespoke suits and floral pocket squares.
The actor will also be popping up in the Philipp Plein fall 2012 ad campaign, which was shot by Terry Richardson. And thanks to the power of mirrors, Richardson can be seen in the frame as well.
Who knows whether Westwick will sell more suits than Lohan sold dresses, but the lack of surrounding controversy makes things a little less exciting. At least Lohan is currently doing what she does best: stirring things up in Los Angeles.
