Those who have ever dreamed of receiving a coveted invitation to fashion’s premiere event may have had their prayers answered — sort of. For the first time, fans will be able to watch red carpet arrivals at the Costume Institute Gala – a.k.a. the Met Ball – on May 7, thanks to a livestream on the Internet.

Instead of waiting for photographers to upload their images, the dazzling cascading gowns, sparkling sequins, outrageous ruffles, and sweeping floor-length dresses will be visible to lust after the moment they arrive on the red carpet. And the viewing will come complete with commentators — former Vogue editor William Norwich and model Elettra Wiedemann — who will ask the glamorous guests which designer they’re wearing.

This year, the Costume Institute’s annual fundraiser will celebrate the opening of the exhibition “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations.” Event co-chairs Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, Prada namesake Miuccia Prada, and newlywed actress Carey Mulligan are guaranteed to saunter across the red carpet and chat with Norwich and Wiedeman. We wonder who else will bet there — Kim Kardashian and Kanye West? Beyoncé and Jay-Z? Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady?
