Not wanting to miss out on any of the festivities at this year's Salone del Mobile, the go-to annual Milan fair for all that's new and innovative in the design world, Italian fashion house Marni is jumping into furniture design. The lusted-after label is presenting a collection of 100 cheerfully colorful chairs that it will be selling at its Milan boutique alongside "L’Arte del Ritratto," an exhibition of photographs by Francesco Jodice.

The fashion house's foray into industrial design is part of a broader charitable initiative. The chairs themselves, made of bright strands of woven PVC threads on metal frames, were crafted by Colombian ex-prisoners as part of a social rehabilitation program. The proceeds go to Milan's ICAM, a support program for the children of imprisoned mothers. With prices ranging from €200-450 a pop ($260-590), the kids are in good shape if this line of chairs sees the kind of enthusiasm with which Marni's other side project was met — the diffusion line at H&M that flew off the shelves earlier this year.
