ARTINFO loves art, obviously, but only the most passionate aficionado can walk around an art fair on an empty stomach. Unfortunately such events are generally housed in cavernous spaces, which, in the urban ecosystem, tend to be located in the most out-of-the-way places (or on Park Avenue, which is an inexplicable desert of commerce mid-city). If you are headed to the Armory Show or ADAA's Art Show this week and are wary — as you ought to be — of shelling out $15 for a sandwich just to keep your blood sugar up, fear not! If you are at the Armory Show, you are going to have to walk a bit to find something to eat — and further if you want something decent. To really pig out, walk to Eleventh Avenue and then eight blocks south for a copious (and reasonably priced) Southern feast at Daisy Mays BBQ USA (623 Eleventh Avenue). If you are at the Art Show, heading east to Lexington is your best bet. 68th and Lex is Hunter College, so there are many affordable options among the bevy of upscale restaurants that litter the neighborhood. Le Pain Quotidien is the best coffee, pastry, and mid-range lunch spot, while Daniel or Park Avenue Winter should be on your radar if you are looking for the best cuisine (and cocktails) in the city.
