Peter Eudenbach's "Chimera," 2010
by Janelle Zara
Published: December 21, 2011

It’s a little quirky. It’s a little creepy. It’s Peter Eudenbach’s "Chimera," named for its fusion of two unlike things, and it’s kind of freaking us out.

The Norfolk, Virginia-based artist debuted this bit of Christmas cheer in 2010, and this holiday season, it’s already sold out at New York’s artist-as-designer shop Artware Editions. Eudenbach gives a handmade glass ornament a very “Nightmare Before Christmas” feel by attaching nuts to the bottom and screwing in pewter casts of bluejay feet, leaving it to stand upright with its metal loop facing forward to function as a sort of beak. It’s a lovely gift for art lovers, but panic if you see it start to move on its own.
