The motifs of dates and horizons have long been the vehicle for Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone to explore the relationships between viewer, artist, work, and emotional response. The separations between these relationships are blurry for the artist himself, whose “date paintings” are a work he aims to continue until his death.

French street artist JR has plastered the faces of neighbors and locals on the stoops of Park Slope, water towers in Spain, underneath bridges in Paris, and on crumbling walls in Cambodia. His work has been publicly shown all over the world and is now presented by Galerie Perrotin in Miami, opening in an exhibition this week.

Organized by Thomas Lawson and Aram Moshadyedi with exhibition design by Martin Kersels and Thomas Lawson, this exhibition collaboration between The Getty and the California Institute of the Arts for Pacific Standard Time focuses on the term “experimental” in all contexts of the history of Los Angeles art-making. The exhibition is based on the research of Calarts students from the “The Experimental Impulse” seminars 2009 through 2011 and coinciding with commissioned essays from the East of Borneo journal and blog.

Grayson Perry “The Tomb of the Unknown Craftsman,” at The British Museum, Great Russell St., London, Through February 19
Turner Prize winner Grayson Perry creates a playful installation juxtaposing new artwork with the anonymously-created objects of the British Museum. Perry’s objective is to pay homage to the anonymous craftsman whose works populate the museum.

Paul Morrison at Alison Jacques Gallery, 16-18 Berners St., London, Through November 20
Closing this week, Paul Morrison’s first solo show in London since 2008 transformed both the inside and the outside of the gallery space with soft white silhouettes of serene flora and fauna. The gallery’s façade will be decorated with Morrison’s “Microsporangium” (2011), a wall of light gray with reliefs of daisies, pine trees, and doves, and the gallery will house “Rhizotron,” a monumental aluminum sculpture of white dandelions.
