Richard Long’s “Karoo Highveld” at the Iziko South African National Gallery, Government Rd., Cape Town, Through April 10

The British artist has a solo exhibition of pieces made in South Africa over the past 50 years. His large scale installations are earthworks that feature rocks from the Cradle of Humankind in Gauteng.

Ugo Rondinone’s “New Horizon” at Almine Rech, 20 Rue de L’Abbaye Abdijstraat, Brussels, Opening 11/18

The motifs of dates and horizons have long been the vehicle for Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone to explore the relationships between viewer, artist, work, and emotional response. The separations between these relationships are blurry for the artist himself, whose “date paintings” are a work he aims to continue until his death.

JR’s “Wall & Paper”at Galerie Perrotin at The M Building, 194 NW 30^th St., Miami, Opening November 29

French street artist JR has plastered the faces of neighbors and locals on the stoops of Park Slope, water towers in Spain, underneath bridges in Paris, and on crumbling walls in Cambodia. His work has been publicly shown all over the world and is now presented by Galerie Perrotin in Miami, opening in an exhibition this week.

Aaron Morse “From Earth to Space” at ACME., 6150 Wilshire Blvd., Spaces 1 & 2, Los Angeles, Opening November 19

Aaron Morse takes viewers to other worlds with his new work consisting of rainbow-hued watercolors of fictional galaxies, menageries of philosophical creatures, underwater ecosystems, and beautifully abstracted topographies.

“The Experimental Impulse” at REDCAT, 631 West 2^nd St., Los Angeles, Opening November 18

Organized by Thomas Lawson and Aram Moshadyedi with exhibition design by Martin Kersels and Thomas Lawson, this exhibition collaboration between The Getty and the California Institute of the Arts for Pacific Standard Time focuses on the term “experimental” in all contexts of the history of Los Angeles art-making. The exhibition is based on the research of Calarts students from the “The Experimental Impulse” seminars 2009 through 2011 and coinciding with commissioned essays from the East of Borneo journal and blog.

Framing masters Pablo Picasso, Giorgio de Chirico, Fernand Leger, and Francis Picabia within the context of the Getty Villa’s collection of antiquities and ancient objects, this exhibition brings to their light the classic influences and appropriations.

Sharon Hayes at The Art Institute of Chicago, 111 South Michigan Ave., Chicago, Through March 11

­The voice — public, private, censored and constructed — is central to Sharon Hayes's first solo museum exhibition in the United States. "An Ear to the Sounds of Our History" (2011), one of her most recent works featured in the show, is an examination of the archives of speeches by icons in history.

Grayson Perry “The Tomb of the Unknown Craftsman,” at The British Museum, Great Russell St., London, Through February 19

Turner Prize winner Grayson Perry creates a playful installation juxtaposing new artwork with the anonymously-created objects of the British Museum. Perry’s objective is to pay homage to the anonymous craftsman whose works populate the museum.

“Gesamtkunstwerk: New Art From Germany” at Saatchi Gallery, Duke of York’s HQ, King’s Rd., London, Opening November 18

Saatchi Gallery celebrates a first with this survey exhibition of German art. Featuring 24 artists from or based in Germany, the show highlights the staying power of German art within the contemporary art world.

Paul Morrison at Alison Jacques Gallery, 16-18 Berners St., London, Through November 20

Closing this week, Paul Morrison’s first solo show in London since 2008 transformed both the inside and the outside of the gallery space with soft white silhouettes of serene flora and fauna. The gallery’s façade will be decorated with Morrison’s “Microsporangium” (2011), a wall of light gray with reliefs of daisies, pine trees, and doves, and the gallery will house “Rhizotron,” a monumental aluminum sculpture of white dandelions.
