A London neighborhood is following in the footsteps of nearby Bristol and letting the public decide the fate of a Banksy mural that appeared about 10 days ago. A public vote over whether the painting should be kept has thus far gone in the artist's favor, with 85 percent of respondents saying they’d like to see the artwork stay.

Sutton Council member Colin Hall said the mural, depicting a young punk struggling to make sense of instructions from a box marked “IEAK,” had “caught the imagination” of the public, and its therefore its potential removal should be decided by residents. He also noted that the council sees a difference between artwork of this kind and run-of-the-mill tagging.

In 2005, the Bristol City Council put another Banksy up for public vote, with 93 percent of respondents electing to keep it. Voting for the Sutton piece ends on Halloween.
