The Venice Biennale has long been considered something of an art utopia, a place where the nations of the world can meet in peace to share their finest cultural achievements every two years. However, some workers at the sprawilng event say that working conditions are far from perfect and have accused organizers of failing to pay overtime, according to Art Monthly.

Some of the 110 seasonal workers employed by the biennale, which opened on June 7 and runs through November 22, have staged protests and distributed flyers urging visitors to write to the event’s organizers to ask them to remedy the situation. One flyer asks people to help stave off threats from “dangerous, Dickensian influences where the mocked workers are the symbol of a culture emptying itself.”
