French Gallery Rallies 1,000 Artists Against AIDS
Yvon Lambert Gallery announced today that it has collected work from 1,000 artists for a fundraiser to fight AIDS — with two special twists. Prices will be standardized, with every piece in the two-day drive at the gallery’s Paris branch set at €100, except for sculptures, which will go for €300,and collectors won’t know who made the work they are buying until they hand over their donation.
Buyers with a smart eye or just a lot of luck could end up heading home not only with the warm feeling of having done a good deed but also a with a heck of an art bargain. Noted artists participating in the show include Sophie Calle, Barbara Kruger, Olafur Eliasson, Jonathan Monk, Christian Marclay, Rafael Lozano-Hammer, Pipilotti Rist, Louise Lawler, Jo Baer, Lawrence Weiner, Alec Soth, and Cerith Wyn Evans.
