Frank Gehry has been chosen to design the expansion of Colburn School Campus in Downtown Los Angeles. Located on the Grand Avenue, the expansion site will stand along notable projects such as Gehry’s Walt Disney Concert Hall, Diller Scofodio + Renfro’s Broad Museum, Isozaki’s Museum of Contemporary Art, and only a few meters away from Coop Himmelb(l)au’s High School #9, and Moneo’s Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. Upon the completion of Gehry’s Expansion project, the area will become one of the world’s largest sites for visual and performing arts program, noted ArchDaily.

The expansion design features a 1,100-seat concert hall, 700-seat studio theater, 100-seat cabaret performance hall, along with a rehearsal center, classrooms, and housing for both students and guest artists. Frank Gehry said, “The expansion of the Colburn School fills an important addition to the long-held dream to create a cultural district in downtown Los Angeles.” “The young musicians, dancers, and performing artists will add to the vitality and excitement of the existing cultural organizations. What we all dreamed about twenty years ago is now becoming within reach, and we will do our best to make it a proud addition,” he added.
