Celebrating over 7,000 years of art history, the 31st edition of The European Fine Art Fair, which is popularly known as TEFAF Maastricht, is on show at MECC Maastricht.

Regarded as the world’s premier fair for fine art, antiques and designs that feature over 275 prestigious dealers from some 20 countries, TEFAF Maastricht gives the opportunity for private and institutional collectors to purchase unique, high-quality and finest artworks in the market. The fair supports dealers, collectors and museums and inspires art lovers and collectors from all over the world.

The main forms of art showcased in the fair are Old Master paintings, antiques and classical antiquities. However, in addition to these, modern and contemporary art, photography, jewelry and 20th century design and works on paper are also showcased. The fair’s nine sections are spread across 100,000 square feet of the MECC with a total of 35,000 objects being offered for sale.

Originating in Maastricht, TEFAF initially in the mid-1980s combined the two fairs — Antiquairs International, for antiques, and Pictura Fina Art Fair, for Old Master paintings, to become one big art show. It was later in 1988 that it was named TEFAF and relocated to MECC. Over the years, it has grown into having different sections such as Modern and Contemporary paintings and Classical Antiquities together with Books, Manuscripts & Maps, which is now named TEFAF Antiques.

The fair has also created TEFAF Showcase, which allows emerging galleries to exhibit, and TEFAF Design, which focuses on leading international specialists in the 20th-century design and applied arts. TEFAF Paper focuses on works on paper and the vibrant TEFAF Tribal is placed next to TEFAF Antiques.

TEFAF Maastricht runs through March 18, 2018. It is on view at MECC Maastricht, Forum 100, 6229 GV Maastricht, The Netherlands.
