Stieglitz the Greatest Photographer of the 20th Century?

Stieglitz the Greatest Photographer of the 20th Century?
David W. Galenson, who's made his name using quantitative research to compile lists of artistic greats, has turned his controversial methodology to photography. By surveying which 20th-century shutterbugs' work turned up most often in photography textbooks, Galenson has declared that the top photographers of the century are, in order, Alfred Stieglitz, Walker Evans, Cindy Sherman, Man Ray, Eugene Atget, Dorothea Lange, August Sander, Edward Steichen, Edward Weston, and John Heartfield.

The findings were published by the National Bureau of Economic Research, which also published Galenson's previous studies: on the greatest women artists of the 20th century (Sherman leads the list), the greatest artists of the 20th century overall (Picasso), and the greatest works of the century (Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon).
