South Korea Kicks off First Women's Biennial
South Korea is hosting the world's first international art biennial focused solely on female artists, the Financial Times news service reports. The Incheon Women Artists' Biennale, which kicks off near Seoul this week, features 400 leading female artists from around the world and runs through the end of December. Artists represented include American conceptual artist Barbara Kruger, French sculptor Niki de Saint Phalle, and German painter Kathe Kollwitz. The biennial is themed "Knocking on the Door" and spotlights the social structures and ideologies surrounding women.
