Indian-born British artist Anish Kapoor has taken to Instagram to vent his anger at being banned from acquiring the world’s pinkest pink paint. But the ban doesn’t seem to have stopped Kapoor from getting his hands on the pigment, with the artist posting a picture on Instagram (@dirty_corner) of him flipping the bird with a finger covered in the pink pigment, a jar of which sits beside his hand. The caption accompanying the image reads “Up yours #pink”

The ban was instituted by the pink pigment’s creator, British artist Stuart Semple, in response to Kapoor’s acquisition of exclusive rights to the Vantablack pigment – the world’s blackest black pigment. “I don’t think it’s really very fair!,” Semple says on his website. “We all remember kids at school who wouldn’t share their colouring pencils, but then they ended up on their own with no friends. It’s cool, Anish can have his black. But the rest of us will be playing with the rainbow!”

Semple attempted to prevent Kapoor from acquiring the pigment by requiring anyone purchasing it to make a legal declaration during the online checkout process stating that: “you are not Anish Kapoor, you are in no way affiliated to Anish Kapoor, you are not purchasing this item on behalf of Anish Kapoor or an associate of Anish Kapoor. To the best of your knowledge, information and belief this paint will not make its way into that hands of Anish Kapoor.”
