Description

Joe Mancuso debuts new paintings, sculpture, and a site-specific installation for his latest solo exhibition "Anodyne."  Improvisation plays an integral role in Mancuso's latest series as in his layered resin and latex paintings.  The genesis of these extemporaneous paintings start with a layer of dripped and poured latex paint which are followed by subsequent layers of dripped and poured paint that that directly relate to the previous layer.  Typical of Mancuso's process is the use of non-traditional materials such as resin and polywood, which are used to create lyrical, molded components.  In the case of his sculpture, each resin component is layered in such a way to create a luminous sphere while his site-specific wall installation includes dozens of molded polywood components that are contingent upon the preceding strata.
