Summer in the City: Public Art

Public art is on view year-round in New York, but in summer it seems to truly fulfill the potential of its title. When the crowds are out in the parks and at the beaches, touching, ogling, and sitting on the works, that is when public art hits its stride. For those who eschew air-conditioning for the open air, ARTINFO has chosen a few of the best offerings currently on view. They’ll take you from the heart of Manhattan — that mind-numbing tourist zone, Times Square — all the way out to the end of the A-train line, at Rockaway Beach, offering film, sculpture, and more in between.
